Alex Milner
PARTNER
I started practising as a lawyer over 20 years ago in a large corporate firm with a focus on property matters. Since then I have had a very wide-ranging career in Australia, London and Fiji Islands. I have held senior in-house roles at Lend Lease, World Vision Australia, Australian Red Cross Society and Ingeus.
I focus on:
regulatory matters, including investigations with respect to ACNC compliance, governance and conduct standards, counter-terrorism and fundraising.
commercial and operational matters , including consultancy and services (such as SaaS/IT) agreements and privacy compliance.
trusts (such as ancillary funds and property trusts), including establishment, trustee duties and management.
property matters from initial acquisition structure, negotiating transactions and resolving disputes.
funding arrangements (including grant-making, and grants and outcomes based funding) and structures (including supply chain partner arrangements).
I am Chair of the Law Institute of Victoria’s Charity and Not-for-profit Law Committee.

Seak-King Huang

I have been a lawyer for 30 years. I draw from my previous experiences as a Partner in a major Australian firm specialising in banking and project finance and as General Counsel and Company Secretary of World Vision Australia.
I advise on:
corporate matters: the role of directors and trustees, constitutions, legal structures (including trusts) and restructures, mergers and de-mergers.
charity status and related tax concessions and endorsements.
project implementation and funding arrangements including grant-making and grants and funding from governments and multi-lateral organisations.
regulatory, accreditation and sector code compliance: directors’ duties, governance and conduct standards, anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism, fundraising.
I chair the Charities and Not-for-profits Committee of the Law Council of Australia’s Legal Practice section. I am a director of the Charity Law Association of Australia and New Zealand and two Australian registered charities. I am also a member of the ACNC advisor forum.

Emma Kostas
SENIOR ASSOCIATE
I have been working as a lawyer in the not-for-profit sector since 2019 and have a passion for ensuring that clients have the advice and tools they need to facilitate their charitable endeavours.
I specialise in charity establishment and structuring; registration of entities with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission and endorsement with the Australian Taxation Office for relevant tax concessions, particularly deductible gift recipient status; and corporate governance (including the preparation of fit for purpose constitutions and board policies).
I am a graduate and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). I previously sat on the Law Institute of Victoria’s Charity and Not-for-profit Law Committee and provided administrative support to the Law Council of Australia Charities and Not-for-profits Committee.
