Our Story

Our journey to establishing Milner + Huang has taken some years.

Both of us started and had established careers in large Australian commercial law firms.  We drew from those early parts of our careers when we began to work in-house in the sector in the mid-2000s, and we broadened and deepened our expertise in the 10-12 years we each spent in the sector. In more recent years, we have both been Partners together at an Australian firm advising a broad range of clients in the for-purpose sector.  In that time, we rounded out our experience as professional advisors.

The two of us have worked together for many years both in the sector and at a previous firm. We complement each other with the expertise and experience that we each have.

We enjoy having collegiate relationships with in-house lawyers in the for-purpose sector.  Some of the most fulfilling work we have done has been over conversations with in-house colleagues to find a practical solution on specific issues.  We empathise with the immediate demands made of them in they day-to-day work in their organisations.

We also enjoy working alongside other advisors as they advise clients in the for-purpose sector.  We believe that clients often get better outcomes when their advisors work together on a way forward.

Beyond our legal practice, we are both involved in the for-purpose sector in different capacities (in honorary roles, on Boards and in committees).  We do this because we believe we are better lawyers when we are involved in the sector, and we enjoy learning from and sharing our experiences and knowledge with colleagues (legal and non-legal) in the sector.
